There is a great website called  Gift Card Granny and this is how it works.

Selling Gift Cards: Someone gifts you a $100 gift card for a store/restaurant you don't enjoy  You sell it to Gift Card Granny for say $80.00 and take a bit of a loss but it is well worth it because you need the cash more. Gift Card Granny then posts the gift card valued at $100 on their website for maybe $86.00 and the site made a $6.00 profit from the person who eventually does buy that gift card from the site. That customer will get a $100 gift card for only $86.00!

Buying Gift Cards: You know you are going to buy a certain couch at Crate and Barrel and you have already picked it out. You go to Gift Card Granny and buy one of her gift cards valued at $500.00 for  $420.00. You save $80!
