It's only ink for goodness sake

Last week I had to buy a couple of printer cartridges, shelling out $35.00. Thankfully, I had a gift card but it  still seemed ridiculously expensive. Ink? Pens don't cost that much. I don't get it. But about a week later my husband showed me this as he was flipping through the Costco ad:
